Sarah Bliss

Sarah Bliss is a filmmaker, artist and educator of Northern European descent whose work facilitates deep encounter with the sensate, desiring body.  Engaging personal and social history, she works artisanally with hand-processed film and with video to create experimental and documentary projects and kinesthetic immersive installations.  Her work is screened internationally at museums, galleries and film festivals including the Edinburgh International Film Festival; ARKIPEL Jakarta; Museum of Contemporary Art, Taipei; Fracto Film Encounter Berlin; Montreal Underground Film Festival; and Anthology Film Archives. She’s been recognized with fellowships from the Flaherty Seminar, the Massachusetts Cultural Council (2019 Film and Video finalist; 2013 New Media/Installation fellow), and Scotland’s Alchemy Film Festival, and is an Independent Imaging Retreat alum.  Current projects include a personal doc tracing her family history of desire; and production of film tints/toners made from mushrooms, lichen, bark and nuts.  She received a Masters in Theological Studies from Harvard Divinity School, teaches cameraless filmmaking, and is a member of Boston’s AgX Film Collective.  

Orange Band

A contemporary landscape that explores the post-human and post-industrial, searching out new ways to engage the body on the land. By engaging the camera apparatus as a literal extension of my body, I bridge interior and exterior worlds, blurring the edge of what is “me” and what is “outside me.” Psychogeography made palpable.
